The kind folks at POD are now stocking my greeting cards....
"Founded in Bristol in 2001, pod offers an innovative and appealing collection of home and lifestyle gifts with an emphasis on style and fun. Our thriving stores in Cheltenham, Bristol and Oxford are now favourite destinations in the search for the perfect present."
New Phoenix Cafe managers Claire McQueen and Teresa Harris will be exhibiting work by Welsh artist Jason D at the cafe throughout this summer. They have asked him to show his bold modern floral canvases during August and September, as a way of raising theirs and the Phoenix's profile. Teresa says, " It's a great destination eating and meeting place in Hereford city centre, we wanted to re-light interest in the business and thought that Jason's work was just the spark that the Phoenix needed!" His art is more often than not shown in restaurants and cafes rather than ubiquitous art galleries. As he explains; people are more inclined to buy or commission his work when they are sat down, relaxed and eating. The exhibition at The Phoenix Cafe, 43 St. Owen Street, Hereford runs until Saturday 10th September.
Waiting patiently for my greeting card range to come back from the printers.... there are 18 in this first set and I will be selling them through selective and unusual outlets.... just need to get them back first, before I can do anything with them...
To coincide with their re-opening on the 1st May, Lucy at The Wild Fig farm cafe and Fruit Garden has asked me to do another exhibition of my prints in their cafe area. The newly re-designed cafe space incorporates an ice-cream parlour, selling their fantastic range of home made ice creams ( which I can't stop eating!!) and a retail area stocking a selective range of locally sourced organic produce including the Fig's own beautiful jams and preserves. It's a great spot to hang out in, lick some ice cream and just watch the clouds drift by....
Suzie Horan is holding an 'Anniversary Open Day', at her Contemporary Jewellery & Design Gallery on 21st May, 10am - 5pm. She has invited the Maker's and Artist's that she stocks, to come along and chat to her customers over a glass of bubbles. Cheers Suzie, I'll definitely be there!
I have just finished and delivered my latest commissioned print - a 2 m x 1 m 'Camo' canvas print. Kate, a really supportive client had previously commissioned work from me, but decided that she wanted to increase the size of the images to suit her beautiful new large lounge. " It looks FAB, I'm really really pleased with the finished piece.... I just need to save up now to get the rest of my pictures enlarged!!" Thanks Kate....
I have been exhibiting my work at Suzie Horan's Contemporary Jewellery & Design Gallery, at 32 Wyndham Crescent in Cardiff for the past couple of weeks. It's a great little space to drop in on if you are passing through that part of Town. Suzie has a fantastic eye for curating the works that she has carefully selected. It also doubles as "home" to her own exquisite contemporary designer jewellery collection.
In January / February I was asked to show some of my "scooters and shooters" prints in, 'Art & Life' a Pop Art exhibition at Off The Wall gallery in Llandaff, Cardiff. It was picked up by Dave Owens at The Western Mail, who published a piece.... " Snap, Crackle and Pop " which included this insert featuring my images!
..... I have included a couple of photos of the prints, which do them slightly more justice.... they are limited editioned prints on Somerset Enhanced paper and framed in antique lacquered Victorian frames....
..... this one is titled, ' Six Guns ' and the one below is called ' Pee-Shooter '......
Everybody welcome on the 11th December to an ' OPEN STUDIO ' event @ The Model House in Llantrisant. Hopefully most of us will be in or around our studios to meet and greet you all...... and maybe offer you something artistic and lovely just in time for Xmas..... be there or be square.......
Off The Wall Gallery in Llandaff have asked me to exhibit in their Christmas Show. "If you are looking for that special present there will be works of all types of art including oils, pastels, watercolour, photography, ceramics, glass & jewellery. There will also be a wide range of prices to suit most pockets". It runs until the New Year..... and if you haven't been there yet.... " Situated in Llandaff, Cardiff “Off the Wall”, opens its gothic doors at the Old Probate Registry, to the people of Wales and afar, promoting international, modern, contemporary art, as investment pieces. Our aim is to bring art to a wider market where you do not have to be wealthy or even knowledgeable about contemporary art to buy it". I have put in this new piece which is titled 'Abstract Flower 1'.... it measures 120 cm x 90 cm and is a limited editioned digital inkjet print on canvas.... I also printed it approximately the same size onto Somerset Enhanced paper and, it looks great.... It is one of a new series that I have been working on over the Summer and Autumn months.... the Flowers are beginning to lose their obvious flower form and the leaves and petals are abstracting into "island" shapes, with their colours becoming, dare I say it, more muted!!
Summer 2010 produced my most artistic challenge to date. A commission of 90 prints to be installed at the new Vale Healthcare Hospital, Hensol Park, Vale of Glamorgan. I have worked closely with Chief Executive Lis Neil over the past couple of years, who has been very supportive and tolerant of my artistic temperament..... thanks again Lis!
The piece shown hangs in the main reception area of the hospital and is called 'Corner Fusion'. It is made up of four separate, 90 cm x 90 cm stretched canvas digital prints..... it looks better in the "flesh", my snap does it very little justice. I would love the chance to make more pieces on this scale, the potential to just keep placing image next to image and create a large frieze would be great..... any takers??
My exhibition at the Model House, Llantrisant has just finished..... I'm glad I put it together now..... I had my doubts at the time, but it's always good to put the work up in a different environment.... you get the chance to stand back from it and take stock, think about how you can improve on it next time.... then move on!!
The photo shows the work in situ, myself and Becky, who now curates and runs the ground floor area at Model House. The Western Mail picked up on this and printed an article in the paper last week.... I guess all publicity is publicity....
I received this commission recently from a client who wanted one of my prints. She wanted it to fit with her interior colour scheme, to match her soft furnishings but also to introduce new brighter colours into the room.
This inkjet canvas print measures 120 cm x 90 cm and is titled; 'Rachel's Teal Daisy'.
"I am so happy with my print, custom made by Jason D. Prints - it looks fabulous in my flat, and makes my home complete, highly recommended.... order yours today."Rachel Griffiths, Company Director - Tenby Estates Ltd.
WOW Factor! I forgot about this and how marketing works.... you write something and forget about it... it's published and you remember it.... you instantly forget about it.... someone contacts you about it.... you remember it and then it's forgotten again.... you write something and forget about it.....etc...
